North Coast Trail – A Remote Adventure on Vancouver Island
Explore the rugged and untamed beauty of Vancouver Island’s North Coast Trail on this guided multi-day hiking adventure. A lesser-traveled gem, the North Coast Trail offers unparalleled solitude, breathtaking landscapes, and abundant wildlife. This is your chance to experience one of the most remote and rewarding trails on the island with expert guidance and support from VIBE.
Trip Highlights
The North Coast Trail is Vancouver Island’s most remote and demanding coastal trek, stretching 43 km along the wild northern shoreline of Cape Scott Provincial Park. This rugged backcountry route takes hikers through dense coastal rainforest, across driftwood-strewn beaches, and over rocky headlands battered by the Pacific Ocean.
Rich in Indigenous history, the trail follows lands traditionally used by the Kwakwaka’wakw peoples, where ancient village sites and cultural remnants can still be found. Wildlife is abundant! Black bears roam the forest, wolves leave tracks along the beaches, and sea otters and whales can often be spotted offshore. Steep muddy trails, tidal crossings, and rope-assisted climbs make this a true test of endurance, while the solitude and untouched wilderness offer an unparalleled sense of adventure.
With dramatic sea stacks, hidden coves, and sweeping ocean views, every step of the North Coast Trail delivers a raw and awe-inspiring connection to nature, making it one of the most rewarding treks on the west coast.
